Tests rule out chances of chemical eggs
October 17, 2016 | IndiaThe preliminary screening of samples of eggs at the Centre of Excellence in Poultry Science of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), Thrissur, in the wake of reports of sale of chemical or ‘Çhinese’ eggs, did not find any artificial nature in the samples. The samples were collected by the Food Safety and Standards authority from various markets in Ernakulam district.
“All the eggs were natural, but the yolks of the samples were thick,” KVASU sources said. Moreover, the egg membrane was easily identifiable because of its thickness, the sources said.

PIL in HC against keeping egg-laying hens in small cages

The petition by the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO), which is one of several pleas filed in various high courts, has opposed setting up of a battery cage farm in western Uttar Pradesh where around 1.5 lakh egg-laying hens would be confined, saying it amounts to "extreme cruelty"

India to approach WTO for poultry ruling compliance in case filed by US
September 30, 2016 | IndiaIndia is preparing to approach a panel of the World Trade Organization (WTO), seeking its endorsement that the country has complied with a ruling of the multilateral body on a case filed by the US challenging an Indian ban on imports of certain American poultry items.
The decision seems to be triggered by the fact that the US hasn’t yet withdrawn the plea at the WTO, seeking approval to initiate retaliatory measures against India for alleged non-compliance of a WTO ruling by the latter.

Egg procurement scheme launched
September 27, 2016 | IndiaThe scheme envisages procurement of eggs from farmers at Rs.5 per egg. Kepco will distribute the eggs through outlets of its own and other agencies. The plan is to transport the eggs to various places for distribution. A consignment of 12,000 eggs was procured on Friday. The production of eggs had gone up in Kanjikuzhy after entrepreneurial groups of Kudumbasree took up poultry farming with the aid offered by the grama panchayat under a special scheme named ‘egg village.’ Marketing of the eggs was a challenge to the farmers. Kepco took up the challenge with a view to helping the farmers.

African Poultry Wrap: Tanzania Opens Up for Russian Imports
September 26, 2016 | IndiaTanzania is the latest African country to allow imports of halal poultry products from Russian producer, Cherkizovo.
The Russian meat producer also produces other meat products and has a poultry farm in the Lipetsk region in Russia. This month it shipped the first batch of dozens of tonnes of halal poultry into Tanzania and has earmarked to increase its halal poultry shipments to the African country to 500 tonnes before the end of 2016.
