Koppal district administration has instructed poultry farm owners to take precautionary measures, including maintaining cleanliness in poultry farms and providing safety equipment to workers, to prevent hens and chicks from being affected by bird flu.

It's summer, but prices of eggs jump to 60/dozen

Mumbai: Eggs come cheap during the summer but this season, retail rates are at a record high of Rs 54-60 per dozen, compared to the normal cost of Rs 44-48. Traders blame the drought for the crisis, saying poultry farms in Hyderabad are struggling to meet their requirement of water.

Kuwait imposes ban on imports of poultry products from India

NEW DELHI: Kuwait has imposed a ban on imports of poultry products from India in the wake of bird flu outbreak in Tripura on January 4, Parliament was informed today. 

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that information is being shared to sensitise the importing countries that establishment basedcompartmentalisation is possible in India and the same may be considered for import of the products from India.

Culling of 1.4 Lakh chickens begins in Bidar farm

KALABURAGI: Culling of chickens suffering from avian flu started at Arunodaya Poultry Farm at Molakera village of Humnabad taluk in Bidar district on Tuesday afternoon.

As many as 50 teams, each comprising a veterinary doctor, a veterinary inspector, two ‘D’ group employees and an assistant have been engaged to cull 1.40 lakh chickens.

Poultry firms fear profit fall on imports of costly feeds

HYDERABAD: The Indian poultry sector is fearing pressure on profit margins with successive droughts resulting in acute shortage of poultry feed, forcing the industry to import maize and soya after several years, coupled with rising temperatures leading to a surge in broilers' mortality. 

Despite measures like increasing the prices of chicken and eggs and strict control over production, the breeders claim no respite to the pressure on profit margins.

Allow import of genetically-modified soyabean from US

Soybean futures up on positive global cues

New Delhi, May 3 (PTI) Soybean prices edged higher by Rs 39 to Rs 3,964 per quintal in futures trading today as traders raised bets, tracing a firm trend overseas.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, soybean for delivery in current May month contracts was trading higher by Rs 39, or 0.99 per cent to Rs 3,964 per quintal, with an open interest of 59,540 lots.

Egg price increases to Rs. 3.25

Officials of National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) said that due to intense heat, the poultry birds are most affected resulting in drop in egg production. Hence, the price of wholesale eggs was increased by 10 paise. The price of egg remained at Rs. 3.50 for the most of April and dropped to Rs. 3.10 at the end. “Prevailing temperature and the forecast that temperature will increase further is expected to affect the birds. Despite summer and feed management in place, the size of eggs drops,” they added.

Closure notices to 6 poultry farm owners

Panchkula: Haryana environment department, on Thursday, issued closure notices to six poultry farm owners for violating rules of the Pollution Control Board. According to orders issued by Haryana Pollution Control Board (HPCB), they said that a meeting was conducted with poultry farm owners in March where they were given instructions to follow guidelines issued by PCB as it is a serious concern for residents.

Wholesale price of egg drops further

With drop in demand, the wholesale price of egg has dropped by 20 paise to be fixed at Rs. 3.10 here on Monday.Officials of the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC), Namakkal Zone, said that the price of egg that remained at Rs. 3.50 from April 1 to April 22 dropped to Rs. 3.30 on April 23 and further dropped to Rs. 3.10 on April 25. They said that the drop is due to fall in demand as presently eggs are not supplied to noon meal centres.

Feed intake in poultry will be less

With temperature expected to be around 41 degree Celsius in the next four days, poultry farmers were asked to ensure feed management so that it does not affect the birds.A weather advisory from Agromet Field Unit of Veterinary College and Research Institute and Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, said that the maximum and minimum temperatures will respectively be 41 degree Celsius and 28 degree Celsius.
