Green light for Grenfell poultry abattoir

August 24, 2015

The operator of a chicken farm near Grenfell wants to build the plant that will process 55 tonnes of poultry every year.

The Council has approved the plans on the condition the waste is moved off-site as soon as possible.

The mayor Mark Liebich said while there had been concerns about potential odour, they had been properly addressed.

"There was a concern regarding a smell, just regarding the stomach and the waste from the chickens," mayor Liebich said.

"The owner's done an excellent job by pursuing another avenue in Cowra, to dispose of the waste so it will get rid of a smell issue."

Mayor Liebich said it would shore up certainty for the owners and create jobs.

"We're pro-business in Grenfell.

"Providing we're not stepping on anybody's toes and providing we're trying to help everybody, we're definitely pro-business, so it all means jobs and jobs mean future for the Weddin Shire.
