Poultry farmers asked to increase energy content

January 9, 2017  | India
Tweet Print Version

With prevailing lowered day and night temperatures may cause egg production to drop, poultry farmers were asked to increased energy content in feeds.

A press release from Agromet Field Unit of Veterinary College and Research Institute here and Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai said that cloudless and chill weather will cause enhanced feed intake in birds.

Restrictions

Restriction will not help to reduce the egg weight, but may cause egg production to drop.

Hence, poultry farmers are asked to increase the metabolizable energy content of feed (2,600 kcal/kg) and vitamin D3 content of the feed to restrict the feed intake just above the standard to remain economically viable.

Post-mortem

Post-mortem observations in the birds brought for diagnostic purpose at Poultry Disease Diagnosis and Surveillance Laboratory in the institute revealed death of birds due to upper respiratory tract infection.
