Now, a shield to increase shelf life of eggs
Ludhiana, May 4: Come summers and the shelf life of the eatables starts decreasing and so is the case with eggs. In summers eggs get spoilt easily and the maximum shelf life of eggs comes down to 10-12 days. But here is good news for egg lovers. Guru Angad Dev Veterinary University (GADVASU) has developed an egg bio shield which when sprinkled on the egg increases its shelf life.
Dr Manish Chatli, Head of the Department of Livestock Products Technology at GADVASU, said that the department has come up with an egg bio shield to increase the shelf life of eggs.
“It is in the powder form and one just has to add the powder in hot water, let the water cool and then sprinkle it on the eggs. There are nearly one lakh pores on egg shells and this powder develops a shield on the egg and helps it to last for 30-35 days during summer season,” said Dr Chatli.
This egg bio shield is very popular among poultry farmers. Very shortly a machine is also being developed for spraying mixture on eggs on a large scale. He further added that the mixture is made of four ingredients which are natural substances extracted from bones and milk and no harmful chemicals are used.
