

India’s egg production continues to soar, reaching an estimated 142.77 billion eggs in 2023-24, marking a 6.8% growth over the past decade, according to the Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics (BAHS) 2024 by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy. This growth translates to an annual increase of 3.18% compared to 2022-23.
Here’s a look at the largest egg-producing states in India:
1. Andhra Pradesh – 17.85% of Total Production
Andhra Pradesh remains the top contributor to India’s egg production. With modern poultry practices and large-scale farms, the state leads the country with nearly one-fifth of total eggs produced.
2. Tamil Nadu – 15.64% of Total Production
Tamil Nadu ranks second, producing a significant share of India’s eggs. The state’s poultry industry benefits from strong infrastructure and high demand in both domestic and export markets.
3. Telangana – 12.88% of Total Production
Telangana continues to be a major player, with efficient farming systems and supportive policies that encourage egg production.
4. West Bengal – 11.37% of Total Production
West Bengal contributes over 11% to national egg production. The state has seen steady growth thanks to small and medium-sized poultry enterprises.
5. Karnataka – 6.63% of Total Production
Karnataka rounds out the top five, leveraging both traditional and commercial poultry farming to meet local and regional demand.
Notable Growth
While these states lead in sheer numbers, the highest growth rates have been observed in Ladakh (75.88%), Manipur (33.84%), and Uttar Pradesh (29.88%), indicating emerging potential in these regions.
