Pune: Broiler chicken prices have crashed 25-30% in several states in the last two months, contrary to the trend of poultry becoming costlier around the summer season.
Consumers have cut down on broiler chicken consumption as nine states have reported H5N1 (avian influenza) or bird flu cases in poultry since January. While Jharkhand and Karnataka have carried out mass culling of the poultry birds, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar too have reported H5N1.
