Egg prices have fallen by 10% due to a drop in demand, influenced by the summer season and concerns over bird flu.
Typically, egg consumption declines during the hotter months but the recent bird flu scare has further dampened demand.Additionally, with schools closed for summer vacation, the daily supply of over 30 lakh eggs to students from Class 1 to 10 has been halted, impacting overall sales.
Sources say eggs cannot be stored for long during summer, which has also contributed to the price drop.
In December and January, the wholesale rate for 100 eggs ranged from `550 to `600, but it has now fallen to `460.Retail prices have also declined from `7–7.50 per egg to around `6. Further reductions are expected around the Ugadi festival.
